At CAVES we are able to provide feline whole blood transfusion medicine. We are fortunate to have a close partnership with the Concord-Merrimack County SPCA for our feline donors. We typically have two donors that have spent a period of time in safe confinement donated by the shelter. Once our donors have been selected and arrive at our facility we perform several blood test to assure they will be quality donors. We also surgically alter our donors unless they have been so  previously.

Our donors generally are exceedingly affectionate outgoing cats.  They enjoy spending their days on any variety of window seats in various offices throughout the hospital. Donors generally give two lifesaving transfusions then are placed up for adoption. Occasionally the recipient’s family asks to provide a home personally. We are grateful for their service and appreciate the daily warmth and humor they bring our hospital team.
